An Old Soul At Heart
At just two years old, Owen has already shown more strength and courage than most of us will in a lifetime. On June 23, 2025, Owen’s family took him to the hospital after weeks of fevers, bruising, and fatigue - symptoms that were first thought to be minor. Within an hour of arriving at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, they received the heartbreaking diagnosis: Owen had B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Two days later, he underwent surgery to place a port and began chemotherapy. That ER visit turned into a 19-day hospital stay.
Since that day, Owen has endured 25 procedures under sedation, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and frequent hospital visits - which are nearly an hour to and from home. Early in his treatment, he lost the ability to walk - but through his determination to keep up with his little brother, the help of a walker, and some physical therapy, he began walking again in late August.
Before his diagnosis, Owen was a happy, energetic toddler who loved playing outside, all things cars and trucks, singing, dancing, and preschool. Owen has traded preschool days for hospital visits. His love for cars inspired the name “Owen’s Pit Crew,” a community of family and friends supporting him every step of the way. Even in the toughest moments, Owen’s imagination shines bright. He named his IV machine his “robot” and affectionately called his hospital room “Owen’s House.” He never leaves the hospital without blowing kisses to every nurse and doctor - and saying bye to the chairs in the infusion center.
Owen has bravely reached remission, but his journey continues with over a year and a half of chemotherapy and ongoing treatments to keep him cancer-free. He continues to inspire everyone around him with his strength, spirit, and infectious smile.
